I live in Kinston with my wife Lindsay and our 3 kids. Kinston is a great place to raise a family and we love the integrated nature of life in a small town. I grew up in a family of 5 in Lexington, KY. My family members are hardworking, dedicated people who taught me the value of finishing what you start and putting others ahead of yourself. I graduated with a B.A. from Malone University in Canton, OH in 2004 and a J.D. from Regent University School of Law in 2007. While at Malone, I played soccer, lettering for 4 years. I also was on the NPDA Debate team and went as far as the National Tournament in 2003. At Regent, I discovered my passion for oral advocacy and loved my time on the Moot Court Board. After Regent, I had the honor of clerking at the North Carolina Supreme Court for the Honorable Justice Edward T. Brady. That road led me to Kinston and the Perry firm.
I have had the honor to work at Perry, Perry & Perry since 2008. In my time here, I have come to love the way we are able to serve our clients through some of the hardest times in their lives. No matter the circumstances, I believe that fairness and justice are realities that each person should have equal access to. Not everyone comes from the same background, but everyone should have the opportunity to work hard and make something of themselves.
When I started here, my practice was diverse, and I handled all types of criminal and civil matters. Eventually, I began to focus my work primarily on Civil Litigation. Though I occasionally represent clients in Family Court or with criminal defense, the majority of my work is focused on complex business disputes, real estate litigation, medical negligence litigation, personal injury litigation, and trial work. When someone is injured as a result of negligence (someone else’s wrongdoing), we do our best to make sure that person gets the medical treatment they need to recover from their injuries and that they are treated fairly by the insurance company. That is not always as easy as it should be. In that case, we are not shy to file a lawsuit and take our clients’ claims to a jury. I also offer hundreds of hours of pro bono legal time every year and partner with NC Legal Aid.
When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my family and my growing kids. I coach soccer in the Lenoir County Parks and Rec system. I hunt and fish and love to introduce folks without that experience to the great outdoors. I serve on the Board of Directors at the Refuge, and as an Elder at Grace Fellowship Church and am active in a lot of other community organizations.
