Evan S. Hiatt, Attorney
Growing up in Salisbury, I learned to appreciate hard work and family values. This foundation led me to want to be a lawyer so that I could be in a position to be a positive light to clients who are facing difficult life circumstances and to help people walk through these hard times.
I earned a B.S. in Secondary History Education from Appalachian State University in 2015 and earned my J.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law in 2019. In law school, I participated in student government and served as the 3L Class President and participated with the James and Carolyn Davis Society.
I also gained so much valuable experience as I considered where and how I wanted to practice law by clerking for the Honorable Chief Judge Frank D. Whitney (Western District of North Carolina, U.S. District Court) and with the Honorable Chief Justice Paul M. Newby (North Carolina Supreme Court). My time serving the court as an Intern prepared me for the private practice of law by allowing me to see from a different perspective the unique struggles that clients face before the Court. I chose to come to Kinston and practice law at Perry, Perry & Perry because of the unique culture of our Firm and the chance to live out my values while doing our best to put our clients first.
My practice focuses primarily on defending clients accused of traffic and criminal offenses in Wayne, Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties as well as Domestic cases in Family Court. I regularly appear in District and Superior Court and am admitted to practice in Federal Court in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
We also prioritize community service here and that allows me to participate in various activities including hosting a small group with YoungLife, being active in my church body, and serving occasionally at Hope Preparatory Academy.
